IDT Positions

I am a Kindergarten teacher and I am going to school to get my masters degree in library science. I really love my job it is very rewarding most days.  I am not sure that I want to always be in the classroom, so I figured being a librarian would get me out of the classroom, but still give me an avenue to touch little minds.  When I graduate I doubt I will look to change positions right away considering I have only been teaching a couple of years.

Working in the library seems like a fun way to stay in the school system without being in a classroom full time.  I think it will give a little freedom to teach more fun things.  I love to read to kids and what better way to get to read than to be the librarian.  I will also need to know a great deal about technology since most school librarians are also the campus technology specialist. So I need to learn as much as I can in that field.  All the electives I plan on taking will have to do with technology.

  1. I too, am working toward the goal of becoming a school librarian because I enjoy working with students. You are correct when you talked about how technology will play a large part in the role of future school librarians because the field is changing. No longer are librarians simply responsible for working with printed materials, but they are often responsible for helping faculty and students implement technology within the school system as well. I wish you the best of luck in achieving your goal.

  2. The library at the school where I worked was recently remodeled and turned into an internet cafe/library. It has small laptop computers that the kids can use to access the Accelerated Reader program to take tests or they can look up and read ebooks that we have available for them to check out. The library in school systems has become technology central!

  3. Misty,
The librarian job does sound interesting. I always thought about how nice it would be to be among books with plenty of time to read. However, from what the librarians are saying it involves a lot of work. I think I will stick to the class room.
